MERCY HOUSE

The God Story!

  • February 2005
Jodi Greenstreet was at a meeting with local social
service agencies and the Deputy Chief of Police
mentioned to her that he felt the number one need in
Bradford was for a Women's Home.

  • March 2005

We were having our first meeting with the women from the local churches who were interested in meeting the needs of the women in the community.  We brought up the need of a women's home and these women believed that if God wanted us to meet this need, He could!  So we prayed about it at our next three meetings.

  • May 2005

For Giant Tiger's Grand Opening, they had chosen CrossTrainers (The Hub youth centre) as their charity of choice, so we were all invited to the Gala Opening along with Mayor Frank Jonkman.  The mayor pulled Jodi aside later in the evening and asked if we  had a use for a big house?  Jodi immediately told him the idea of a Women's Home and within a week we had a meeting with Geranium Homes and they handed us the keys to what is now Mercy House.

  • Since then...

We have spent a lot of time working out our lease agreement with Geranium (in which they offered to cover the utilities and taxes on the home for 10 years) and visiting other transitional homes for research as to what works and what doesn't.  We have spent much time working on Policies and Procedures, as well as developing training for the volunteers.  We are currently working on finishing that up.

Currently, we are  getting the house itself renovated.  So much has already been accomplished to the praise and glory of our God!  The donated fire system is in place and security is almost there.  Drywall is hung and lots of mudding and sanding are happening now.  As things progress and needs arise, the Lord has been so faithful and is meeting all of those needs.

Mercy House will open in His timing not ours, so we will continue on in the direction that He is leading us and trust thta He will have everything worked out for us!
